Kristin Poage is a contributing author and presenter for Marzano Resources. She is a middle school principal, professional development presenter, and district leader. Her career in education has led her to work in areas of student engagement, grading, instruction, and leadership.

Kristin Poage

Kristin Poage is a middle school principal, professional development presenter, and district leader. She helped to create a standards-based grading and assessment movement in Monroe County schools in Indiana. Kristin has also been an adjunct faculty member of the Indiana University School of Education, where she instructed preservice secondary English educators, and a training consultant at St. John Associates.

As a teacher leader in Monroe County, she helped to create proficiency scales, train other educators, and implement standards-based classrooms at all grade levels. Kristin also helped develop a joint initiative with her district and Indiana University to train and implement a co-teaching model. She has conducted a series of professional webinars about moving from a traditional graded classroom to a standards-based, scale-scored classroom.

As a presenter for Marzano Resources, she has been able to lead schools and districts through the implementation of standards-based grading. She has also been instrumental in providing tips and techniques for highly engaged classrooms. Recently, she has joined the governing body and become one of the certification reviewers for the High Reliability Teacher certification program.

Kristin received the 2010 Educator of the Year Award from The Franklin Initiative.

She earned a bachelor’s degree in history and English and a master’s degree in language education at Indiana University and an educational leadership degree from Indiana Wesleyan University.
